Fans of the Wizarding World have a new reason to celebrate as Kit Harington, celebrated for his portrayal of Jon Snow, has been announced as the voice of Gilderoy Lockhart in the new Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets audiobook. This announcement brings another familiar face to the extensive Harry Potter universe, albeit in an audio format.

Harington reportedly expressed his enthusiasm for the role, stating, "Bringing Gilderoy Lockhart to life has been an absolute delight. He's such a wonderfully pompous and self-important character, and finding his voice has been a fun challenge." He also added, "I've always admired the magic of the Wizarding World, and it's fantastic to contribute to it in this way, especially with a character as memorable as Lockhart."

It is important to note that this casting is specifically for the audiobook and is separate from the highly anticipated HBO Original series, a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s books. The HBO series, which began filming in summer 2025 and is slated for an early 2027 release, has its own confirmed cast. Dominic McLaughlin is set to play Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. Other prominent roles include John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape.

Lockhart, a flamboyant and notoriously vain author, first appears in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets as the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher. His character provides much of the comedic relief, often exaggerating his achievements and using memory charms to take credit for others' deeds. Harington's involvement in the audiobook brings a fresh interpretation to a character many fans love to hate.
