The idyllic village of Lustleigh is poised for an exciting shift as the HBO Harry Potter series prepares to begin filming there from next week. Its storybook charm makes it a perfect fit, and production, now operating under the codename Brown Cat, is already making its presence known.
While principal photography officially commences in mid-October 2025, subtle clues hinting at the magical transformation are already popping up around Lustleigh. The local parish newsletter, read with the scrutiny usually reserved for a Ministry of Magic memo, detailed plans for a tracked vehicle to assist with orchard lighting and the potential addition of Halloween decorations around the village cross, specifically for filming purposes. There was even talk of potholes being filled along Wreyland Path, a small but welcome benefit for residents.
A visit to Wreyland Path showed new road closure signs, though the area remained as quiet as a Hogsmeade street after curfew. On Brookfield Road, however, a team from AGS Rentals Film & TV Division was busy laying down a temporary path in a field. Parking restrictions were also in place, a classic sign that cameras are on their way.
During an attempt to snap a photo of the preparations, a production team member, complete with a lanyard, politely intervened. When asked about any Potter-related activities, she claimed complete ignorance – a denial about as believable as Cornelius Fudge insisting everything is under control.
Later, in the village shop, the buzz was palpable. "You won’t get in though," one local warned. "They’ve got security." Another villager added, "All of us in the village had a letter – just about the road closures, that’s all although it was quite a nice letter, wasn’t it?" This brief chat offered a glimpse into the local sentiment, a mix of excitement and understanding about the forthcoming restrictions.
So, no wands, no spells, and no Dumbledore himself, John Lithgow, has been spotted striding through the lanes in wizarding robes just yet. But the enchanting village of Lustleigh is ready, with its quaint cottages and historical feel, to step into the role of Godric’s Hollow. Until then, we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for any stray broomsticks over Dartmoor.
