Daniel Radcliffe, who famously brought Harry Potter to life for millions of fans, recently shared insights into his conversations with former co-stars, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, regarding the new HBO Original series. The trio discussed the unique feeling of watching fresh talent step into the iconic roles they originated.
"It’s definitely a bit surreal," Radcliffe reportedly commented. He acknowledged the special place he and his friends hold, saying, "We’ve all talked about it. To see a new generation step into these shoes, knowing how much these characters mean to people… it’s a strange but exciting feeling."
This new HBO adaptation, which began filming in summer 2025 and is slated for an early 2027 premiere, is designed as a faithful, season-per-book rendition of J.K. Rowling's original seven novels. Dominic McLaughlin has been confirmed as the new Harry Potter, with Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The cast also features John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, among others.
Radcliffe expressed genuine enthusiasm for the upcoming series, highlighting the expanded storytelling opportunities it offers. "I’m genuinely excited for the fans, and for the new cast. They get to explore so much more of the books," he noted, referencing the series' ambitious seven-season, 10-year plan. "It's a huge undertaking, but I think it’s going to be brilliant."
