The HBO Harry Potter series is well into its third month of production, with filming expected to continue until May 2026 for a 2027 release. Fans have already seen glimpses from location shoots, including the first look at John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore. Now, more exciting casting news has emerged, featuring the show's first announced centaur.

Actor Jake Curran has joined the cast as Ronan, one of the centaurs from the Forbidden Forest. Ronan will appear in the first season, which adapts Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Given Ronan's presence in multiple books, it's very likely we'll see Curran return in future seasons too. In the books, Ronan, alongside Bane, encounters Hagrid while investigating the mysterious unicorn deaths. With eight episodes per season, the show has plenty of scope to expand on these scenes and the centaur culture in more detail than ever before. Fans are already eager to hear who will play Bane and Firenze.

Curran is known for his roles in the 2025 Robin Hood series with Sean Bean, Gangs of London, and the upcoming DC film Clayface, where he plays Patches. Additionally, Leigh Quinn, recognized from Write Off and Love at First Sight, has also been cast in an as-yet-undisclosed role.

The growing cast list for the Harry Potter series includes many familiar names previously announced, alongside these new additions. Key roles confirmed are Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The adult cast features John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid. Katherine Parkinson plays Molly Weasley, with Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley, and Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley. Other notable cast members include Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, and Luke Thallon as Professor Quirinus Quirrell.

Excitingly, the new reveals also include Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Lambert Wilson as Nicolas Flamel, and Marthe Keller as Perenelle Flamel, indicating that these important characters will be featured prominently. We also have Warwick Davis, reprising a magical role as Professor Filius Flitwick, after his involvement in the original films. Supporting students like Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnegan, Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, and Grace Cochrane as Ginny Weasley are also part of the ensemble, alongside Tristan Harland and Gabriel Harland as the Weasley twins, Fred and George, and Ruari Spooner as Percy Weasley.

Filming for the first season is scheduled to conclude by mid-2026, with the production team planning a brief break before jumping into Season 2. The series is set for release in early 2027, promising a deep dive into J.K. Rowling's beloved books.
