Production on the highly anticipated HBO Harry Potter TV series continued through September, largely out of the public eye. Fans noted the production code name shifted from “Dark Train” to “Brown Cat.” While the reason for this change is unknown, it’s likely an effort to maintain secrecy, especially given how widely the previous codename was reported.
Despite attempts at discretion, the enthusiasm surrounding the series meant that some exciting details from location shoots inevitably found their way to fans. September certainly delivered, offering a peek into some crucial early moments of the story.
Early Family Moments Filmed in Luton
Scenes featuring James and Lily Potter were filmed at Wardown Park in Luton on September 18. These night shoots were kept under wraps, but local residents managed to capture some intriguing videos. One clip shows a couple, believed to be James and Lily, rushing across a bridge, with another figure seemingly carrying a baby. This could be a recreation of the poignant scene where James, Lily, and baby Harry are seen before Voldemort's attack.
Another video from the same location clearly showed actors resembling Harry’s parents in action, further confirming the nature of the scene being filmed.
Vernon Dursley Spotted in Hoddesdon
Filming then moved to Hoddesdon near its clock tower on September 23. Fans had already heard whispers about this location in August, and the eager onlookers didn't disappoint in providing updates. Photos from the set showed Daniel Rigby, who is confirmed to play Vernon Dursley, alongside an actor believed to be Jon Fulong as Dedalus Diggle.
Additional footage from the day showed a group of wizards celebrating Voldemort's defeat, inadvertently blocking Vernon Dursley's car. Daniel Rigby's Vernon was seen honking in frustration as he tried to navigate past the joyous crowd, a classic Dursley moment.
Hogsmeade Station and the Hogwarts Express at Windsor
Forest Lodge in Windsor, a new royal residence, has also become a filming location for the Harry Potter series. A massive set for Hogsmeade Station has been constructed about half a mile behind the lodge, complete with half a mile of track for the Hogwarts Express. In late September, the new Hogwarts Express was transported to the Lodge for filming. Fans will be thrilled to know the Royal family was also present on Friday, September 26, to observe the night filming and meet the cast.
Hogwarts Boat Scene Recreated
The production returned to Wardown Park in Luton for a second time on Saturday, September 27, to film the iconic boat scene where first-year students arrive at Hogwarts by traversing the lake. This suggests that exterior shots of Hogwarts will be a blend of on-location and studio work.
Upcoming Filming in Cornwall
The Harry Potter series is scheduled to film in Cadgwith, Cornwall, from October 6-10. Roads in the area, specifically between Prazegooth Lane and Campion Lane, will be closed. Given the road's proximity to the beach, it's highly probable that coastal scenes will be shot there. Filming for the first season of the HBO series, which began in summer 2025, is expected to continue through mid-2026.
